People Move: Gabriel G. Green Named Managing Partner of Buchalter’s Los Angeles Office

Buchalter just handed its Los Angeles office, 300 people deep, to the litigation chair who’s spent nearly a decade winning its hardest cases. That’s not a reshuffle, that’s a growth bet.

Buchalter named Gabriel G. Green Managing Partner of its Los Angeles office, per the firm’s announcement, while he continues as Firmwide Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.

Know the attorney behind the promotion. Green earned his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2002 and his B.A. in Political Science from Penn State, then joined Buchalter in December 2016 as a litigation shareholder from Archer Norris. He focuses on complex business disputes, commercial real estate, intellectual property, and franchising, and has been named a Los Angeles Business Journal Leader of Influence: Litigator and Trial Attorney as well as an LABJ Top Lawyer.

Big Law leadership changes in LA move fast through the lateral market. When a firm elevates its litigation chair into office leadership, that’s a strategy signal, not a reshuffle, and it usually means growth mode: more lateral partner recruiting, more practice group investment, more visibility in the market the office serves. It’s a pattern we track in our hiring trends coverage of professional services.

Buchalter’s Los Angeles office runs roughly 300 attorneys and staff, one of the more substantial regional footprints among mid-size national firms competing for talent across the SoCal legal market. Compensation for office leadership and practice chairs at this level keeps climbing, a trend our Compensation Watch series keeps tracking.

For litigators reading this and wondering what a decade of case wins is actually worth in this market: ask our Get Placed desk. Firms are paying up for proven trial attorneys who can also run an office, and that combination is rarer than either skill alone.

To Gabriel G. Green: congratulations. Three hundred colleagues and one of LA’s most competitive legal markets are now yours to lead.

What to watch next: whether Buchalter’s LA office accelerates lateral hiring under Green’s leadership, which practice groups get the next investment, and how competing firms respond. Big Law leadership moves are early indicators for the broader legal talent market, and we will keep logging them on the People Moves Tracker.
